This is a very old building, absolutely full of character. Cosy bar, log fires, great atmosphere. Our room was gorgeous, like something out of a national trust house. Period furniture but huge and super comfy bed. Huge bathroom with roll …
All staff welcoming and helpful. |Sunday lunch and breakfast excellent.|Room 8 large, warm, well equipped and comfortable. Our second stay at this unique hotel, last one 8 years ago! Still highly recommended if you’re in Stamford. Thanks to all
A friendly welcoming hotel with some lovely staff! Bar and restaurant area are warm and cosy - dinner was delicious.Rooms are characterful and clean. Our bed ,despite the creaks , was very comfortable. This was our third visit and we will …
Overall this is a very good hotel for the price. Very comfortable bed. Good location, within walking distance of the town and Corn Exchange. Free parking at sister hotel. Good breakfast included. Nice bathroom but not much space to put anything. Could do with better lighting in bedroom.
Food was prepared with imagination and to a very high standard, service was welcoming and impressivly slick. Beware portions are generous so the option of a lighter desert would have been appreciated. The restaurant has a cosy, traditional ambience. We would definitely return and highly recommend it as a venue.
Love this hotel. Have stayed here twice recently. Quaint but high standard of everything. Lovely clean, spacious, quirky room with little touches like very posh tea/coffee and homemade cookies. Historic bar/restaurant (didn't eat there). Super breakfast (if you like REALLY smokey bacon, as I do). Great (I'm running out of superlatives) kitchen garden, where you can sit out for a drink and 'potting shed' where they have live music and show films. Free parking at sister hotel, a short walk up the road. Friendly and attentive staff. Very convenient for town centre.
My sort of place.
Checking in was rather slow. The bar downstairs looked popular and cosy on a cold evening, plus there are additional facilities out back for warmer weather. Our room (6) was really nice in a national trust way. Bed was really comfortable and the bathroom had a rolltop bath and walk in shower. Some road noise. Full English breakfast plus a basket with fruit and juice, pastries and little cereal pots and the usual hot drinks and toast was all really good, with good service too. Handy for a walk around Burghley park, Stamford is a lovely place. Will happily come here again.
We visited on Friday night and had dinner in the Ski chalet. It was very cosy, had a lovely ambience and was very well put together. The food was amazing and the service was perfect. We had a fantastic evening and highly recommend.
In the 1600's when the place was brand new, the Bull & Swan was a gentlemen’s drinking and dining club called the Honourable Society of Little Bedlam. The unruly embers protected their identities behind animal nicknames, which is reflected today on the names given to the rooms. Isaac Newton was known to be a member.
Nowadays, you can nip in for a decent pint, or glass of wine. Watch the football on the bar TV or sit outback on a sunny day in a good sized beer garden.
